How do I get paid?
How and how often you're paid depends on your resort. Some pay by check, others by direct deposit. Your resort will explain their process when you arrive and help you set it up. You'll need a Social Security Number before you can be paid, so see the Social Security article for how to get one.
How much will I earn?
You're paid an hourly wage for your role, with a guaranteed minimum. The exact rate depends on your role, experience, and the resort, and pay rates are listed on each resort's profile. Check the resort profiles before you interview so you can weigh up the pay alongside any housing costs.
Do I need a US bank account?
If your resort pays by direct deposit, you'll need an account with a US routing number. This can be a traditional US bank account or a digital service like Wise that gives you US account and routing numbers. Your resort will tell you what they need.
If your resort pays by check, you'll need somewhere to deposit or cash it, and your resort can advise on where.
Tipping in the US
Tipping is a big part of American culture. When eating out, a tip of 15 to 20% is standard, and tips are also expected for taxis, hairdressers, and hotel housekeeping. It's worth budgeting for, especially during your time off and travel.
What about tax?
Everyone who works in the US files a tax return after their program, and your resort provides a W-2 summarising your earnings. See Filing your US taxes for the full details.
What if I have a problem with my pay?
Speak to your resort first, as they can resolve most pay issues directly. If it's still not sorted, contact the Resort Leaders US office.
