Your health and wellbeing come first. A season at a US resort is exciting, but it's also a big adjustment, so look after yourself and know where to turn if you need support.
Settling in
Feeling homesick or out of your depth in the first few weeks is completely normal, and the people around you are likely feeling the same. Talk to your fellow team members, get involved in resort life, keep in touch with home without spending all your free time on it, and make sure you get enough rest. Give yourself time to settle in.
Looking after your physical health
A few simple habits go a long way:
- Get plenty of rest on your days off
- Stay hydrated, especially in hot weather
- Eat well where you can
- Use sunscreen and dress for the climate
- Listen to your body and don't push through if you're genuinely unwell
If you feel unwell or pick up a minor injury, you don't have to wait until it becomes serious before getting help. Your program includes medical insurance, and there are a few ways to get care. For minor issues, you can speak to a doctor 24/7 through DialCare, the telehealth service included with your insurance. For something that needs in-person treatment but isn't an emergency, visit an urgent care or walk-in clinic. For how this works, including deductibles and finding a provider, see the Insurance section.
If you have an injury caused by your work at the resort, that's covered separately by your resort's workers compensation insurance rather than your medical insurance.
Looking after your mental health
If you're struggling, you don't have to deal with it on your own. Talk to your managers or experienced colleagues at the resort, lean on the friends you make, and reach out to the Resort Leaders US support team, available 24/7 on 1-866-803-7643. Asking for help early makes a real difference.
Food and diet
Food in the US may be quite different from what you're used to, and some options may be more processed than your typical diet at home. If you have dietary requirements, let your resort know so they can support you.
