Background and medical declarations

What to declare about your criminal history, US travel history, and medical background, and the documents you may need to complete.

Last updated June 16, 2026

As part of your application you'll share some information about your background and health. These declarations support your US visa and help Resort Leaders look after you on the program. Answer every question truthfully.

Criminal history

You need to declare any criminal history, in any country. This includes any offences committed before the age of 18, as it's a requirement for your US visa.

Write down everything, even if it seems minor. When the team knows about it, they can help and advise you. Resort Leaders reserves the right to refuse acceptance to the program to anyone with a criminal record.

US travel history

You'll also be asked about your US travel history, including whether you've ever been denied entry to the USA. If you answer yes, the team will be in touch to talk through your options.

Medical history

Your health and safety come first. Answer the medical questions truthfully and honestly. This helps Resort Leaders keep you safe throughout the program.

Please share:

  • Any medical conditions, including chronic or ongoing ones
  • Any injuries or illnesses you have now or have had in the past

You can also choose to share any physical, developmental, or other disability. This helps the team find the placement options that work best for you.

Medical documents

If you tell the team about a current or pre-existing medical condition, you may be asked to complete one or more documents:

  • A medical release, due within 15 days of being Accepted
  • A medical clearance letter, signed by a medical professional, which Resort Leaders will provide
  • A medical agreement, which you only need to sign if the team asks you to

If you haven't been asked to complete a document, no action is needed.

Keep in mind that the insurance policy provided by Resort Leaders doesn't cover pre-existing medical conditions, and it's strongly recommended that you buy additional medical insurance.
