What is the accommodation like at a resort?
From cabins, to dorms, to apartments, to hotel rooms; accommodation facilities vary across resorts. We make sure that they all meet a Resort Leaders set standard and that they are suitable for you to live in. You'll be sharing your accommodation with other staff members both from the US and Internationally.
Do I need to pay for accommodation?
This depends on the resort that you are hired at. Some of our resorts are in multimillion-dollar destinations California, Colorado, Hawaii, etc) where housing & accommodation is at a premium cost. Some of our resorts do not charge for housing in order to attract you to work with them. Please check out each of our Resort Profiles to weigh up your income potential versus the housing fee prior to interviewing. Our Country Office staff can always assist in explaining this too.
Will I need to bring bedding with me?
No. All international staff will be provided with bedding and a pillow. Usually, within the first week of arrival, you'll be taken to Walmart for the opportunity to purchase any extra items that you may want.
What is the food like at the resort?
Most resorts provide meals as part of your accommodation payment or have a small fee ($2-$3) in the employee cafeteria. All staff usually eat at least one meal per day here so the majority of meals will be standard, staple meals.
- Breakfast is usually something like cereal, fruit or toast. There might also be some fancy options like breakfast burritos, pancakes, hash browns or english muffins.
- Lunch can include favourites like make your own sandwich (peanut butter and jelly is a popular choice) soups, mac and cheese, grilled cheese etc.
- Dinner can be your classic hamburgers, kentucky fried chicken, fajitas, tacos or spaghetti and meatballs.
Resorts can cater to special dietary needs such as Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten Free, Nut Free and Dairy Free.
I have dietary requirements, will they be catered for at my Resort?
Yes. Resorts often have many guests and other staff with various dietary requirements. Make sure this is detailed correctly on your medical form & communicate with Human Resources so that your resort is aware of any dietary requirements before your arrival.
Will I get time off during my program?
Yes. Every resort department schedule is different but you should get some time off at least once a day as well as a number of full days off during the your program. Due to the hospitality industry being focused on the tourism market, it is highly unlikely that you will receive weekend days off OR be able to travel with groups of your friends during your contract.
What can I do during time off?
At most resorts, scheduled time off within the day will be spent in your accommodation/in the resort town. You may choose to rest, catch up with friends or contact home- your resort will let you know what you can and can't do whilst on property. Your full days off can be spent however you like. Explore the surrounding areas, heading to Walmart or go to the local diner for food- the options are endless.
Will I be able to contact my family and friends at resort?
Yes. All resorts will have wifi access or an internet room for staff to use. Please note that whilst on shift, most resorts will not allow you to have your phone with you. If you urgently need to contact home, you can speak to your supervisor or HR team.
How can I use my phone in the US?
Most networks will work in the US but some may charge you to make and receive calls. It's best to check in with your provider about these charges before you leave your home country. You can also get a US sim card while you're out there if you need one to contact other American staff members. Most resorts will have wifi, so we’d advise sticking to WhatsApp or facetime calls when you can.
